If you wish to adjust your browser to make viewing even easier, we have provided some guidelines below.
    2. Changing display properties
This site is best viewed at a resolution of 800px x 600px, although we are working towards making the website more responsive. Changing your screen resolution can make text and images appear larger or smaller depending on your preference.

PC: Go to the ‘Start’ menu and select ‘Control Panel’. The Control Panel folder with appear on your screen. Now select the ‘Display’ icon. Next click on the ‘Settings’ tab. You will see a box labelled ‘Screen Resolution’ with a slider underneath. Move the slider across to change the resolution. When you have selected a resolution that works for you, click on the ‘Ok’ button.
Mac: Click on the Apple logo, then navigate down to and click on ‘System Preferences’. When System Preferences window pops up, click ‘Displays’. If ‘Display’ is not already selected, click it. Now select a resolution from the list. It should change immediately. Select different resolutions until you reach one that works for you, then close down the window.
Please note these methods might differ for older versions of Windows and Mac.

      Changing text size
You can change the text size used on websites in various browsers. Below are some popular browsers and options for text alteration.

Internet Explorer 8: Go to the toolbar and select ‘Tools’, then ‘Internet Options’. This should take you to the ‘General’ tab, where you can find and select the ‘Accessibility’ button. Now select the box in front of ‘Ignore font sizes specified on webpages’. Press ‘Ok’ to exit that window, then ‘Ok’ again to exit the General options window. You can now change the font size for website text by goin to the ‘Page’ button in tabs, clicking ‘Text Size’, then selecting the size you want.

Google Chrome: You can zoom in and out by keyboard or mouse. The keyboard combination for zooming in is ‘Ctrl +’. The combination for zooming out is ‘Ctrl –’. The combination to return to default size is ‘Ctrl 0’. To change the size using the mouse, click the ‘Control the current page’ button (usually at the top right of the browser window) and select ‘Zoom’.

Firefox: Zooming in and out by keyboard is the same as for Chrome. You can also zoom in or out by pressing ‘Ctrl’ and scrolling with the mouse’s scroll wheel if it has one. Alternatively you can change the zoom settings by selecting ‘View’ from the top navigation tab, and then selecting ‘Zoom’. This displays a secondary dropdown where you can select ‘Zoom in’, ‘Zoom out’, or ‘Reset’.
    3. Changing colours
We have endeavoured to use colours that have sufficient contrast and that do not conflict with colour blindness. If our colour scheme makes it difficult for you to read the text, you can change it from your browser.

Internet Explorer: Click on ‘Tools’ and then ‘Internet Options’. Then click on the ‘Accessibility’ button and tick the checkbox in front of ‘Ignore colors specified on webpages’. To specify your own colours for both text and background, click on the ‘Colors’ button within ‘Internet Options’ and uncheck the ‘Use Windows Colors’ box. Simply click on the ‘Text’ and ‘Background’ boxes to choose your preferred colour scheme.
    4. PDF files
There are some documents in Adobe Acrobat’s Portable Document Format (PDF) on the site. These documents are identified by the icon opposite. Your computer will need the ‘Acrobat Reader’ program, which is available free of charge. Simply go to the Adobe Web Site, fill in a short form identifying what type of system your computer is running on and then click the ‘Download’ button. It is not necessary to download the program each time you wish to read a pdf file; Adobe Reader will remain stored in your computer’s memory.

If you have difficulty viewing the screen or reading web pages with access technology, Adobe now has a program available which converts pdf files into html coding so that your system can read the page. The Acrobat Reader 5.0 for Windows with Search and Accessibility can be downloaded from the Adobe Web Site free of charge at the following address:

You must scroll down this page until you come to the heading 'Acrobat 5.0 Reader with Search and Accessibility'. You can then choose the correct version according to the type of computer and operating system you are using.
